SIGNED Letter encl.Blue stringbound wraps, 220x145mm approx.16pp (unpaginated) Printed on hand made paper in red and black ink with colophon of Ashendene press at rear and published on the anniversary of the thirty first year since the founding of the press. Loosl laid in is a signed letterfrom Hornby addressed to Jackson Wylie & Co in reply to a post card concerning the forthoming edition of "Don Quixote" dated 18th Nov 1926. C H St. John Hornby was a partner in W H Smith & Sons, but he set up his own press initially in Ashendene Herts to print books for his family and friends. The Ashendene Press was founded in 1895 and continued until 1935, with a break during the First World War from 1915 to 1920 and employed the likes of Edward Johnston, Graily Hewitt, Eric Gill , Katherine Adams and Sydney Cockerell's brother Douglas. VG (Booklet - a little rubbed to extremities and light shelf soiling to deckled fore edge of the most prominent page.Clean with no notable defects. Green Paper covered boards with brown cloth quarter binding and laid on paper title slip. 230 x 145 mm approx. xx + 388 + 12pp index.+ 192 plates on glossy art paper. Vol 7 in a series called "The Library of Advertising" published by Butterworths. Although much has changed in the digital printing era the principles associated with good lay out, presentation and some practices associated with graphic/ commercial art remain constant and the book remains an excellent reference work for the commercial and graphic artist. The art work of the many plates is also of interest. VG (no dust jacket) Book- A little general shelf wear and soiling to boards with uneven fading to rear board. No previous owner name or insc.
