Hard Back , Good , 1st edition , 1868 , Publisher's brown cloth bevel edged boards with gilt decs and titles. vi + 448pp, Steel engraved frontis of Lichfield Cathedral with tissue guard. A metaphorical record of walks in the Black Country in that the author's researches were in the course of preparing a report for the Birmingham Consulate for publication iby the Department of State in Washington. His perambulations consequently focus on the industrial history of the area and with the passage of time and demise of Britain's industrial base now provides an interesting record of the "Black Country's" Industrial Heritage. Good (Book- A previous owner has covered the boards in cellophane which has kept the boards clean and protected them from subsequent wear but at the expense of parallel lines on the oposing free endpapers from the celotape holding it in place.Name of previous owner in ink to ffep. and front past down has blemish 10x5mm - scuff/loss to black colour. Endpapers starting - mull holding but boards a little flopy. Binding generally sound but a few signatures a little strained. Wear/chips to cloth at head and tail of spine. Name of a previous owner and date to half title page. a few foxing marks to prelims and a few small tears to foredge margin of title page of up to 2mm. No other notable defects and despite seeming catalogue of matters to be drawn to prospective purchaser's attention remains an attractive volume).
