Series II 1920 Brown leatherette with gilt and black lettering and gilt blocked design of what seems to me to be a Kingfisher in flight, pictures to end papers, 376pp, 213 col illust reproduced from Lord Lilford's work "Coloured Figures of the birds of the British Islands" + 69 b/w photos by Kearton and others. ( Marren in his book the observer's book of wayside and woodland states that the first edition of series II should have a gilt blocked design of a wader with no note of a reprint until the 2nd edition of 1923). The copy offered for sale is dated 1920 on the title page with no other printing stated on copyright page. There is also Xmas 1920 in ink written on reverse of front end paper. Series III Migration and Habits with observations on our rarer visitants. Brown leatherette with gilt and black lettering and gilt blocked design of a plover. 308pp. 68 col. and 68 b/w phots. NB this vol. is not dated on the title page. Copywright page 1926 with no other printing history. This vol has the remnants of it's dust jacket - rear panel and flap fold present and none of the other vols. in the series published after 1926 are mentioned. Marren makes no mention of a reprint between the first and the second edition of 1929. All vols VG no dust jackets except for remnant of jacket Series III. Vol I has Ink E from H Xmas 1920 to reverse of ffep in same hand as the ink date to Vol II. Vol III has no gift insc. or date but 10/6 net in pencil to reverse of ffep. There is a little shelf wear to extremities Vol I more so than the others and there is also a liquid splash to bottom corner of book block which has ingressed up to 1mm of margins of some pages.
