Green cloth boards with gilt titles to spine and blind stamped publisher's device to front board. Frontis portrait plate + all other plates and fold out floor plan as called for. Published in the Notable Scottish Trials series this is the account of the trial of Jessie M'Lachlan for murder in Glasgow in 1862 and knowns as the Sandyford mystery as the crime was committed at 17 Sandyford Place Glasgow and the subsequent Inquiry in 1863 ordered by the House of Commons. VG (Book- a little light shelf wear and soiling, 50mm crack to front end paper at top but mull and binding sound. Light offset browning and sporadic foxing to end papers. Sewn head and tailbands.Introductory essay by Ralph Wardlaw. First published in this edition in 1831 the copy offered by us is of the 3rd Edition. (Undated). circa 1850? In a fine binding from Rugby School with a red morocco leather label to front paste down with gilt school crest. VG (Boards- leather rubbed particularly to head of spine at turn in. Some colour restoration has been carried out. No cracks to leather at hinges and binding sound although glue has failed at one signature "f" which has caused the fore edge of the book block to be uneven. Blue cloth boards with gilt titles and decs. to spine, 225 x 155mm approx. Top edges gilt. 10 vols complete.I-VIII + Pepsyiana & Index. Title continues :- Transcribed from the shorthand manuscript in the Pepysian library Magdalene College Cambridge by the Rev. Mynors Bright M.A. late fellow and president of the college. With Lord Braybrooke's notes edited with additions by Henry B.Wheatley F.S.A. The set was published over the period 1893 to 1899 and originally announced as comprising 8 vols but the publisher's issued two supplementary vols being Pepysiana and Index. Publisher's promotional flyer for the extended vols loosely laid in to vol VIII. The set offered by us are largely all publisher's presentation copies to; and all bearing the bookplate to the front paste downs of; Adolphus William Ward Master of Peterhouse and joint author of the History of Cambridge with later book plates of Cynthia and Sir John Barnes (same family). The later being the late British Ambassador to the Netherlands and previously Israel.All illustrations, maps, pedigrees as called for. Also loosely laid in are menu and toast list for dinner at Magdalene College Cambridge Feb 23rd 1905 with other subject related ephemera. Good (Mild to moderate shelf wear/soiling to boards. Occasional pencil highlight marks to margins and notes also in pencil to blanks/made end papers. Crack to front end paper of vol I - probably due to laid in ephemera. No other binding defects.
